B’nai Mitzvah

Etz Chaim is proud of its B’nai Mitzvah program, in which our students learn to chant from the Torah and their Haftarah, and to lead parts of our Shabbat service. In addition to working with an experienced and seasoned tutor, each Bar/Bat Mitzvah has special time to study their Torah portion alongside our rabbis, discuss its meaning, and craft a personal D’var Torah for the day. Our community welcomes member families with students enrolled in our Religious School or in a local Jewish day school as candidates for our program. For more information, please see the links below.

Our B’nai Mitzvah program nurtures and supports our learners. We create an environment that enhances the spiritual and religious experience of our students while addressing their individual needs and abilities. We seek parent involvement in the process so that the B’nai Mitzvah experience generates a close relationship between parents, child, and professionals. As individuality is a primary focus at Etz Chaim, our B’nai Mitzvah program allows families and professionals to work closely in creating expectations that match a student’s learning style and capabilities. Each family’s experience will be one that fosters confidence and allows the student to shine.

As an egalitarian conservative synagogue, girls are eligible, but not required, to be a Bat Mitzvah at age 12, while boys must have reached the age of 13, based on their Hebrew date of birth.
