Religious School

Led by our dynamic Director of Education, Debbie Deutsch and staffed by some of the most creative and talented instructors and support staff in the field, Etz Chaim's Religious School is a warm, welcoming and interactive place to learn what it means to be Jewish.

The goal of the Etz Chaim Religious School is to instill a love of Judaism and a working knowledge of Jewish practice. Developing a sense of being a part of a community, a kehilla, is incorporated into all we do. We hope that by completing our Religious School program, our students will feel a level of comfort within any synagogue setting throughout their lives.

Etz Chaim Religious School utilizes a curriculum that teaches Hebrew decoding, tefillah (prayer), Torah parashiot, having a relationship with God, Israel, holiday rituals and practices. Our spiraling curriculum allows for each year to build upon what was learned in previous years. Families are encouraged to be active participants as well, through volunteer opportunities and parallel learning.

Meet our Team

Debbie Deutsch

Director of Education

Debbie received her B.S. in Special Education from Florida State University and her M.Ed. in Education Administration and Supervision from George Mason University.  Debbie hails from Bowie, Maryland and has the unique distinction of being a member of one of our three-generational families at Etz Chaim.

In 1995, after enjoying a fourteen-year career in the classroom, Debbie became our Director of Early Childhood Education and beginning in July 2011, Debbie began a new journey as the Director of Education for Congregation Etz Chaim.  In this role, Debbie will be instrumental in the education of our youth from 18 months through High School.

Here at Etz Chaim, Debbie has created a warm and caring environment in which children progress at their own pace in a hands-on developmental program.  She is the ideal person to help instill in our children a love of Judiasm and an understanding of who they are and where they come from.
